This Sunday, June 28, 2026, George Gagnidze will make his highly anticipated Poland debut. He will portray his signature role, the menacing Baron Scarpia, in a spectacular, large-scale open-air concert version of Giacomo Puccini’s masterpiece, Tosca in Warsaw.
This exceptional event will serve as a crowning highlight of the inaugural 1st International Festival “The Central Music Square” (Centralny Plac Muzyki). The performance will take place in the absolute heart of the city at the newly opened Central Square, situated on the historic grounds of Parade Square (Plac Defilad) in front of the iconic Palace of Culture and Science. As the biggest square in Warsaw and one of the largest public urban spaces in all of Europe, the venue provides an appropriately grand, monumental stage for Puccini’s intense thriller.
Gagnidze, recognized globally as one of the definitive Scarpias of his generation, shares the massive open-air festival stage with a phenomenal lineup of world-class operatic soloists: Sonya Yoncheva as Floria Tosca and Jonathan Tetelman as Mario Cavaradossi. The performance will be led by acclaimed Maestro Bassem Akiki. Maestro Akiki will conduct the Sinfonia Varsovia, performing alongside the Warsaw Philharmonic Choir and the W. Skoraczewski Artos Children’s Choir. Supporting roles will be brought to life by outstanding young soloists selected in collaboration with the Opera Academy of the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera.
