George Gagnidze returns to Opera Carlo Felice for Verdi’s Macbeth in a new production by Fabio Ceresa, conducted by Sesto Quatrini. Performances are scheduled for May 15, 17, 22, and 24.
One of today’s leading Verdi baritones, Gagnidze first performed the role at the Metropolitan Opera in 2012 before bringing Macbeth to Genoa in 2013 in Henning Brockhaus’ staging. Since then, he has sung the role at major opera houses including Valencia, Budapest, and Bologna, earning international acclaim for his interpretation of Verdi’s tragic antihero.
In Genoa, Gagnidze appears with the first cast alongside Jennifer Rowley as Lady Macbeth, Riccardo Zanellato as Banco, Giulio Pelligra as Macduff, Cristiano Olivieri as Malcolm, Kamelia Kader as the Dama di Lady Macbeth, and Luciano Leoni as Medico/Sicario.
The opening performance will be broadcast live on RAI Radio 3 at 20:00h.

George Gagnidze returns to one of his signature Verdi roles this weekend, singing the title role in Rigoletto at the Shangyin Opera House in Shanghai. The production opens on June 12, with a second performance on June 14.

On March 28, George Gagnidze makes his eagerly anticipated house debut at the Semperoper Dresden, taking on one of his most acclaimed roles, Giorgio Germont in La traviata. Conducted by Nicholas Carter (with Clelia Cafiero in the pit from April 11), he appears alongside Adela Zaharia as Violetta and Amitai Pati as Alfredo, in a staging by Barbora Horáková. The run comprises eight performances through April 28.

George Gagnidze returns to the stage of the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre to perform the role of Tonio in Pagliacci by Ruggero Leoncavallo. Performing in his home city of Tbilisi holds special significance for the Georgian baritone, and Tonio remains one of the defining roles of the Italian Verismo repertoire. With the famous Prologue, Tonio steps forward to address the audience directly and establishes the dramatic framework of the opera.
