George Gagnidze to bring Scarpia in “Tosca” to Las Palmas

On February 20, 22 and 24, George Gagnidze will bring one of his most celebrated roles to Las Palmas: Scarpia in Tosca. With more than 100 performances under his belt as the evil chief of police at venues such as the Metropolitan Opera, Teatro alla Scala, Paris Opera, Teatro Real Madrid or Wiener Staatsoper, George Gagnidze appears in Gran Canaria under the baton of Ramón Tebar and in a staging by Daniele Piscopo. Erika Grimaldi and Piotr Beczala will share the stage with him in the other leading roles.

George Gagnidze celebrated his 100th performance as Scarpia last year the the Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona and will reprise it later this year at the Metropolitan Opera, where he has appeared in the character more than 40 times and in two different productions: in the premiere of the 2009 Luc Bondy staging and in the last few years in David McVicar’s production.

The Georgian German dramatic baritone returns to the Ópera Las Palmas following acclaimed performances in the title role of Macbeth in 2021.

Christmas Gala and Master Class in New York

George Gagnidze is the protagonist of the USA-Georgia Christmas Gala at the Bruno Walter Auditorium in New York on December 17, a festive evening that brings together musical traditions and cultures in the spirit of the season. Organised by Cultural and Educational Foundation Inc., the gala honours the longstanding cultural ties between the United States and Georgia and reflects the Foundation’s mission to celebrate diversity and promote intercultural dialogue.

Gala performance of “Nabucco” in Bonn

George Gagnidze will make his Theater Bonn debut in the title role of Nabucco. In the one-off gala performance on December 11, the baritone returns to the part of the Babylonian king conducted by Will Humburg in Roland Schwab’s new production. The cast also features Erika Grimaldi as Abigaille, Derrick Ballard as Zaccaria, Ioan Hotea as Ismaele, Charlotte Quadt as Fenena, Marie Heeschen as Anna, Ralf Rachbauer as Abdallo, and Christopher Jähnig as Il gran sacerdote del Belo.

“Khovanshchina” at Staatsoper Berlin

George Gagnidze is back at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin to reprise his "outstanding Shaklovity" (Opera Now). On November 2, 9, 15, and 23, Claus Guth’s acclaimed staging of Mussorgsky's Khovanshchina returns following its unanimously lauded premiere last year. Timur Zangiev conducts, and George appears alongside Mika Kares, Taras Shtonda, Marina Prudenskaya, Thomas Atkins, Stephan Rügamer, Evelin Novak, Andrei Popov, Anna Samuil, Roman Trekel, Junho Hwang, Johan Krogius, Hanseong Yun, and Friedrich Hamel.

New production of “Francesca da Rimini” in Turin

In October 2025, George Gagnidze returns to the role of Gianciotto in Zandonai’s Francesca da Rimini, performing in a new staging by Andrea Bernard for his house debut at the Teatro Regio Torino.
