Tonio in “Pagliacci” in Tbilisi
George Gagnidze returns to the stage of the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre to perform the role of Tonio in Pagliacci by Ruggero Leoncavallo. Performing in his home city of Tbilisi holds special significance for the Georgian baritone, and Tonio remains one of the defining roles of the Italian Verismo repertoire. With the famous Prologue, Tonio steps forward to address the audience directly and establishes the dramatic framework of the opera.
The performance is conducted by David Mukeria and staged by Federico Grazzini. The cast includes Konstantine Kipiani as Canio, Tinatin Mamulashvili as Nedda, Guram Paatishvili as Beppe, and Giorgi Lomiseli as Silvio. The Orchestra and Chorus of the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre perform, with Avtandil Chkhenkeli serving as Principal Chorus Master.
George Gagnidze returns to the role of Tonio following numerous appearances at the Metropolitan Opera, where he sang the part in a 2015 new production (including a Live in HD transmission) and revivals in 2016 and 2018. He has also performed Tonio at the Los Angeles Opera and at the Staatsoper Hamburg.

“Tosca” to open new Shanghai Grand Opera House with La Fenice
On 22 and 24 October 2026, George Gagnidze sings Scarpia in Teatro La Fenice’s production of Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca at the Shanghai Grand Opera House (Harmony Hall). The performances mark the first ever opera production to be presented at this spectacular new opera house.

Boston Lyric Opera Debut as Guillaume Tell
George Gagnidze launches his 2026/27 season with his Boston Lyric Opera debut, returning to the title role of Rossini’s Guillaume Tell. Opening on September 25 at the Emerson Colonial Theatre, the new production inaugurates the company’s 50th anniversary season and marks the first fully staged presentation of Rossini’s epic opera in Boston in more than 150 years.

Poland Debut as Scarpia in Monumental Open-Air “Tosca” in Warsaw

George Gagnidze returns to one of his signature Verdi roles this weekend, singing the title role in Rigoletto at the Shangyin Opera House in Shanghai. The production opens on June 12, with a second performance on June 14.

Macbeth at Opera Carlo Felice Genoa
